The role

APRA’s mandate is to protect the Australian Community by establishing and enforcing prudential standards and practices designed to ensure that, under all reasonable circumstances, financial promises made by institutions we supervise are met within a stable, efficient and competitive financial system.  
To help us deliver on our mandate and strategic priorities, our Enterprise Data Solution team is looking to for a modern Test Engineer.   The Test Engineer will have expertise in automated testing, CI/CD pipelines and AI-driven test generation to ensure the quality and reliability of our software products through rigorous testing and continuous improvement of testing processes.

The Team


The Enterprise Data Solution Team operates within the Data, Technology and Security Office. The team is responsible to manage the data platforms within APRA as well as to collaborate with the business and projects to enable APRA’s strategic deliverables.  This role will report to the Applications Manager, Data withing the EDS Team.  
Primary stakeholders are the Head of Technology, Data Delivery, the CIO, other product teams within the Technology department, other teams within Data and Security and project teams. 

Key responsibilities 

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive test strategies and plans. 
  • Design, develop and maintain robust test automation frameworks (eg Selenium) 
  • Perform exploratory testing to identify potential issues and areas for improvement. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand product requirements and design effective test solutions. 
  • Conduct performance and load testing to ensure system scalability and reliability. 
  • Implement and manage continuous integration and continuous testing pipelines. 
  • Use AI/ ML tools for auto-generation of test cases , anomaly detection  
  • Create detailed test reports and metrics to communicate testing progress and results. 
  • Participate in code reviews to provide feedback on testability and quality. 
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends and best practices in software testing. 

About you

  • Strong background in software testing methodologies and practices. 
  • Experience with performance and load testing tools (e.g., JMeter, LoadRunner). 
  • Experience with API Testing (e.g. Postman)  
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript) for test automation. 
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools and processes (e.g., Azure Dev Ops, GitLab CI). 
  • Experience in AI/ML tools (e.g. ChatGPT)  
  • Experience on using Large Language Models (LLM) to analyse logs and generate synthetic test data 
  • Experience working with an Agile delivery team across BAU and projects
