Following recent internal promotions, APRA has multiple opportunities at the General Manager level. These roles form part of APRA’s senior leadership cohort and offer the opportunity to lead significant functions with system‑wide impact.


As a General Manager, Supervision, you will lead a significant supervision business unit and play a key role in delivering APRA’s mission to promote the safety and stability of Australia’s financial system, translating strategic direction into effective supervision outcomes in a complex and evolving environment.

 

You will lead national teams responsible for the prudential supervision of a portfolio of regulated financial institutions in either the Banking or Superannuation sector, with accountability for supervisory actions, escalation and outcomes, including direct engagement with regulated entities.

 

Reporting to an Executive Director, you will be a member of APRA’s senior leadership cohort, contributing to leadership at the whole of APRA level. You will work closely with other General Managers and senior leaders to support divisional priorities and broader organisational objectives. The role requires strong collaboration, sound judgement and the ability to lead through complexity and uncertainty.

 

 

Key accountabilities and outcomes 

 

·         Lead and develop high‑performing teams, fostering an inclusive and accountable culture that enables sound judgement, professional capability and consistent supervisory outcomes.

·         Provide strategic leadership for the supervision of regulated entities, anticipating and responding to emerging risks and industry developments.

·         Exercise supervisory judgement and authority in line with APRA’s supervision framework, including engagement with senior executives and boards of regulated institutions.

·         Deliver effective outcomes by working collaboratively across APRA, including with specialist risk, policy and data teams.

·         Be accountable for effective risk management within the portfolio, applying a risk‑based approach and escalating material issues as required.

·         Oversee the efficient and effective operation of the function, including resources, systems, processes and continuous improvement.

·         Build and maintain constructive relationships with regulated entities, and represent APRA in engagements with peer regulators and other external stakeholders.

 

 

Desired experience and capabilities 

 

You are a senior leader with experience leading large functions and delivering outcomes in a regulated environment. You will bring:

 

·         Demonstrated people leadership capability, including building high‑performing teams and developing future‑focused capability.

·         The ability to lead decisively through complexity and uncertainty, exercising sound judgement and influencing outcomes through clear communication.

·         Significant experience in financial services or a regulated environment, with a strong understanding of prudential regulation and financial system risks.

·         Highly developed analytical, organisational and communication skills, with the ability to distil complex issues for diverse audiences.

·         Effective relationship‑building and influencing capability at senior levels, internally and externally.

·         High personal integrity, executive presence and the courage to challenge constructively in the interests of APRA.

·         Relevant professional qualifications or equivalent experience.
