The role

As an Advisor, Regulatory Affairs, you will lead engagement across APRA to ensure our external regulatory relationships are supported by relevant subject matter expertise. You will work on a broad range of diverse issues that are important to Australia’s financial system.

The team

APRA’s Regulatory Affairs team sits within the Chief of Staff and Enterprise Services Division alongside APRA’s Corporate Affairs, Strategy & Governance, Finance, People & Culture, and Operations functions. You can be based in Sydney, Melbourne or Canberra. 

Our Regulatory Affairs team leads APRA’s domestic engagement (e.g. liaison with ASIC, RBA, Treasury, AUSTRAC and others), international engagement (e.g. liaison with international peer agencies and supporting participation in international committees including the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision and the International Association of Insurance Supervisors) and government relations (e.g. engagement with the Government and parliament more broadly, and the preparation of APRA executives for parliamentary appearances.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead external engagements with domestic and international counterparts and government;
  • Contribute to APRA’s Parliamentary processes and supporting public appearances by APRA executives;
  • Keep abreast of industry developments and monitoring external regulatory developments, identifying those that may affect APRA’s objectives;
  • Develop and implement external stakeholder strategies that support delivery of APRA’s strategic priorities and manage risk to APRA’s reputation;
  • Contribute to APRA’s policy work, as it relates to APRA’s operating environment;
  • Partner with teams across APRA to deliver desired outcomes and engaging across the organisation to bring together subject matter experts;
  • Brief senior executives and providing strategic advice to subject matter experts on handling of sensitive matters with external stakeholders; and
  • Provide feedback on draft legislation to Treasury as it relates to APRA.

     

About you

  • Hardworking and dynamic team player with demonstrated sophisticated operational acumen, personal impact, critical thinking and judgement and technical expertise;
  • Proactively identify key developments, challenges and opportunities in APRA’s external operating environment;
  • Able to synthesise complex information on a range of topics and enjoy working in a fast-paced dynamic environment;
  • Tertiary qualifications in economics, public, policy or law would be well regarded; and
  • Ideally, you would have experience working in or sound knowledge of the Australian financial system, prudential regulation and/or Australia’s Parliamentary system.

To work with us, you must be an Australian citizen with eligibility to gain a Baseline Security clearance through the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency.
