The team and role

The Life and Private Health Insurance and Superannuation Division is responsible for the prudential supervision of life insurers, private health insurers and the trustees of superannuation funds in Australia. There are presently opportunities for Prudential Supervisors in the Life Insurance and Private Health supervision branch.

You are responsible for identifying and investigating prudential risks and issues in collaboration with other supervision and specialist risk teams to achieve APRA’s purpose of ensuring a stable, competitive and efficient financial system.

The team aspire to be innovative in the way they supervise, transparent in the way they engage, and dynamic in their response to change.

Key responsibilities

  • Assess the quality of the supervised organisation’s management, strategies, practices and systems;

  • Performing preliminary analysis of the specialised supervised organisations to identify any potential problems and share with more senior supervisors in the team;

  • Supporting the delivery of prudential engagements with supervised organisations by preparing agendas, briefings and participating in entity engagements;

  • Adapt style and process of supervision depending on the supervised organisations and be flexible to deal with the difference in approach; and

  • Acquiring and developing a range of financial/non-financial analysis and other supervisory skills to support high-quality analysis and risk assessment of supervised organisations.


About you

  • A naturally inquisitive mindset complemented by strong analytical, investigative and research skills;

  • Excellent organisational, self and priority management skills;

  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills;

  • Life insurance and / or Private Health insurance industry knowledge and curiosity to learn;

  • Up to date with financial market trends; and

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline.
