The role

You will lead high-performing teams specialising in superannuation prudential supervision to ensure they meet strategic objectives. As the Senior Manager you will develop and coach staff, lead supervision activities, maintain relationships with key stakeholders and make decisions relating to the strategic direction of the team’s activities. 

The team

The Life and Private Health Insurance and Superannuation Division is responsible for the prudential supervision of the trustees of superannuation funds, life insurers, and private health insurers in Australia. The division comprises three industry focused supervision branches and a specialist branch that operate across the country. 

Supervisory teams are supported by our specialist teams and partners across APRA, such as, investment risk, and non-financial risk teams covering governance and culture, and technology resilience. The specialist teams provide advice and support to enable supervisory teams to fulfil their supervisory function. 

Key responsibilities

  • Lead a team of expert supervisors in supervising a portfolio of superannuation entities;
  • Assess superannuation entity strategies, governance, risk management and operations and make recommendations for improvement;
  • Manage relationships with key internal and external stakeholders;
  • Monitor the superannuation industry to identify risks and issues which could lead to outcomes which go against the interests of the Australian community, and suggest responses; 
  • Play an active role in the Life and Private Health Insurance and Superannuation Division leadership team;
    Contribute to the development and execution of divisional strategy.

  • Demonstrated people leadership skills, with an ability to set direction, empower and create an inclusive environment; 
  • Excellent organisational, prioritisation, analytical and communication skills; 
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to advise and report to internal and external stakeholders and Boards; 
  • Relationship building, negotiation and influencing capability at senior level; 
  • Utilises strong verbal and written communication to influence; 
  • Demonstrated ability to identify strategic issues and develop and implement appropriate solutions; 
  • Recognised and sought out as a thought leader and has the experience to help APRA protect today and prepare for tomorrow; 
  • Knowledge and understanding of APRA’s mission and corporate objectives, functions, processes, and systems; and 
  • Professional qualifications in relevant field or equivalent experience. 
        
    To work with us, you need to be an Australian citizen with eligibility to gain a Baseline Security clearance.
