The role

Regulatory Affairs is a central advice function responsible for APRA’s relationships with domestic and international government departments and agencies and assisting other areas of APRA to achieve APRA’s strategic objectives. As the Senior Analyst, you will work on a broad range of diverse issues that are important to Australia’s financial system.

The team

APRA’s Regulatory Affairs team leads APRA’s domestic engagement (e.g., liaison with ASIC, RBA, Treasury, AUSTRAC and others), international engagement (e.g., liaison with international peer agencies and supporting participation in international committees including the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision and the International Association of Insurance Supervisors) and government relations (e.g., engagement with the Government and parliament more broadly, and the preparation of APRA executives for parliamentary appearances).

Key responsibilities

  • Providing advice on new and emerging risks, leveraging input from across APRA and other Government agencies as necessary.
  • Scanning the external environment and identifying events that may affect APRA’s operating environment such as Government policy changes, industry developments and international events.
  • Managing one or more of APRA’s key domestic regulatory relationships.
  • Responding dynamically to domestic and international information requests on a range of topics.
  • Partnering with subject matter experts to provide briefings for senior executives ahead of key engagements.
  • Contributing to APRA’s parliamentary processes and supporting public appearances by APRA executives.

About you

To succeed in this role, you will leverage your background in financial services, government, regulatory agency or industry association to identify proactively key developments, challenges and opportunities in APRA’s external operating environment. You will also have the ability to synthesise complex information on a range of topics and enjoy working in a fast paced, dynamic environment. Tertiary qualifications in economics, public policy or law would be well regarded.
