The role
The Senior Analyst Governance contributes to the development, implementation and continuous improvement of APRA’s internal governance framework. The role applies governance expertise and sound judgment to support effective oversight, decision-making and accountability across APRA’s executive governance committees and internal governance processes.
Reporting to the Head of Governance, the role works collaboratively with members of the Governance team and stakeholders across APRA to provide strong governance advice, strengthen governance practices and processes, and support the effective operation of governance committees. The role contributes to broader Strategy and Governance Branch priorities as required.
The team
The Governance team sits within the Strategy and Governance branch of the Chief of Staff and Enterprise Services division (ChES). ChES supports the effective operation of APRA through a range of critical functions, including strategy and governance, corporate affairs, regulatory affairs, finance, project delivery, facilities, and people and culture. These functions are essential to the smooth operation of the organisation and enable APRA to focus on achieving its strategic objectives and fulfill its purpose. The Governance team is responsible for supporting APRA’s governance architecture, committee effectiveness and governance standards.
Key responsibilities
Contribute to the ongoing development and enhancement of APRA’s internal governance architecture including governance frameworks, policies, processes and documentation that support effective oversight and decision-making;
Provide governance advice to business areas and committee stakeholders to support high-quality submissions, clear decision pathways and alignment with governance standards;
Identify any governance risks or control weaknesses and recommend practical improvements to strengthen governance integrity and effectiveness;
Support the effective operation of APRA’s internal governance committees including coordinating forward work plans, preparing papers, providing quality assurance for meeting documentation, and monitoring actions to ensure timely completion;
Analyse governance workflows and data to identify opportunities to enhance transparency, accountability, and operational efficiency including leveraging technology to improve practices;
Maintain accurate and compliant governance records and systems, ensuring information is accessible, secure and managed in accordance with information governance requirements;
Apply strong judgment in managing competing priorities and sensitive issues to ensure governance processes operate efficiently and in accordance with established frameworks;
Build effective working relationships with stakeholders across APRA, responding to governance-related enquiries and facilitating the timely resolution of issues; and
Contribute to cross-branch and organisational initiatives that strengthen enterprise governance capability and continuous improvement.
About you
Demonstrated experience in corporate governance, board or committee governance environments, with the ability to apply governance principles in a complex organisational context;
Sound understanding of governance frameworks, accountability structures and decision-making processes, and the ability to exercise professional judgment in applying them;
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills including the ability to identify governance risks and make recommendations for improvements;
Excellent written communication skills with experience preparing clear, accurate and professional documentation for senior stakeholders;
Strong organisational and prioritisation skills with the ability to manage multiple governance activities and deadlines in a dynamic environment;
Well-developed stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to work collaboratively across diverse functions and levels of seniority;
High level of discretion and maturity in handling sensitive and confidential information;
Commitment to continuous improvement and effective use of digital tools to enhance governance operations;
Experience with board management systems and knowledge of corporate governance principles; and
Professional membership of the Governance Institute of Australia (or equivalent experience) is highly regarded.
