The role

The Senior Analyst Governance is responsible for supporting the development and execution of APRA’s internal governance deliverables, as well as secretariat support for APRA’s formal governance committees. Reporting to the Head of Governance, the role works closely with other members of the Governance team to support the full range of functions being undertaken across the team and, on occasions, across the wider Strategy and Governance Branch as needed. 

 
The team

The Governance team sits within the Strategy and Governance Branch of the Chief of Staff and Enterprise Services Division (ChES). ChES plays a vital role in the effective functioning of the organisation and comprises a range of critical functions, including strategy and governance, corporate affairs, regulatory affairs, finance, project delivery, facilities, and people and culture. These functions are essential to the smooth operation of the organisation and enable APRA to focus on achieving its strategic objectives and fulfill its purpose.

Key responsibilities

  • Coordinate the forward plan and meeting arrangements for APRA’s governance committees and monitor the progress of action items originating from the meetings;
  • Prepare high quality meeting packs for members of APRA’s governance committees for which the Governance team provides secretariat services;
  • Act as secretary and assist in providing secretariat support for governance committees as required;
  • Respond to and resolve enquiries and issues to ensure the accurate provision of information to stakeholders and the timely and effective resolution of issues;
  • Support business partners to ensure their committee papers inform effective decision making and are submitted on time to ensure the smooth running of the committees;
  • Manage records and databases to ensure that information is stored correctly and accessible in compliance with team processes and procedures;
  • Assist with developing, implementing and monitoring procedures and improvements to facilitate team operations, including exploring use of technology to improve and streamline committee operations; and
  • Provide flexible support to the Governance team and the wider Strategy and Governance Branch to assist with leadership team days, administrative matters and other APRA wide events. 

 
About you

  • Strong interpersonal skills for effectively engaging with all types of stakeholders at all levels of seniority, both internally and externally;
  • Strong attention to detail to support the smooth operation of APRA’s governance committees;
  • Demonstrated organisation, time management and prioritisation skills, including the ability to understand the larger organisational environment when balancing important and urgent tasks, to ensure deadlines are met;
  • A proactive approach to obtaining information to support decision making as well as a strong client focus to provide timely support and services;
  • Commitment to working well in a collaborative team environment;
  • Demonstrated ability to handle highly confidential information with sensitivity and maturity;
  • Mindset of continuous improvement to identify and make changes that enhance the operations of the Governance team and the committees they support, including the ability to effectively utilise technology to implement process improvements in an evolving digital business environment; and
  • Knowledge of and experience with board management software, corporate governance principles and secretariat processes as well as professional membership of the Governance Institute of Australia (or equivalent experience) would be highly regarded. 

To work with us, you must be an Australian citizen with eligibility to gain a Baseline Security clearance through the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency.
