The role

APRA is seeking an experienced Market Risk Specialist to join the Market Risk & Models team for a part-time role (3 days per week) in Sydney.

The Risk Specialist supports APRA with specialist risk and modelling advice on market risk, counterparty credit risk, and financial markets. This includes assisting in identifying, monitoring and mitigating entity and industry risks by providing insights to inform risk based, supervisory judgements and strategic decisions and support policy development. Analysis and problem solving are regular requirements of the position as well as the proven ability to engage with senior stakeholders both internally and within institutions on complex issues.

 

The team

The Market Risk & Models team is part of APRA’s Cross-industry Risk Division (CRD). CRD consists of three branches:  Financial, Non-Financial and System Risk. CRD delivers on APRA's strategy by using expertise to identify and respond to risks and ensures APRA takes a system wide view.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Lead on-site reviews to assess the risk management framework of a wide range of regulated institutions;

  • Keep up-to-date with theoretical and practical developments in risk management and international supervisory developments, in particular the Basel policy framework;

  • Assess internal models of regulated institutions;

  • Assist in the production of data analytics and horizontal insights;

  • Lead policy developments and contribute to both domestic and international policy;

  • Actively contribute in cross-agency regulatory engagement;

  • Identify and raise emerging trends and identify usage within organisational context; and

  • Collaborate internally and externally to achieve broader APRA or industry outcomes. 

     

 

About you

As an established specialist in either traded market risk, counterparty credit risk or interest rate risk in the banking book, you will be curious and motivated to develop the remainder, across the disciplines of technical modelling and risk management. You will also possess:

  • Deep knowledge and understanding across most of treasury (IRRBB), financial markets (products, pricing models), market risk (oversight and measurement), model assessment and validation, asset liability management, counterparty credit risk (CCR), initial margin models and XVA related risks;

  • Graduate and post graduate qualifications in a relevant discipline which may include professional qualifications;

  • Proficiency in a leading programming language, including experience with developing packages for data analysis, visualisation, and statistical modelling; and

  • Excellent analytical, teamwork and communication skills are essential.

To work with us, you need to be an Australian citizen with eligibility to obtain and maintain Australian Government Security clearance.
