The role

The Head of Strategy will lead a high performing strategy team to shape APRA’s priorities and ensure organisational alignment around these objectives. It reports to the General Manager Strategy and Governance, and sits within APRA’s Chief of Staff & Enterprise Services (CHeS) division.

The Head of Strategy is an important enabler of APRA’s organisational effectiveness, using thought leadership and collaboration to shape APRA’s response to emerging risks.

The team

The Strategy & Governance team plays a central role in connecting, developing and delivering APRA’s strategic priorities, performance reporting capability, and the governance and oversight of APRA’s key committees.   

Key responsibilities

  • Leading the development of APRA’s corporate plan, in collaboration with senior stakeholders across the organisation
  • Providing thought leadership to inform APRA’s strategic decisions. 
  • Providing strategic advice and guidance to internal stakeholders and senior leadership on emerging risks and organisational challenges. 
  • Partnering with APRA’s key committees to implement and oversee strategic plans, including the design and implementation of performance measures.   
  • Shaping the scope, design and execution of key leadership events, including Member and Executive Director offsites, Senior Leadership Team meetings (General Managers and above), Leadership Team Meetings (Senior Managers and above), and strategy days.
  • Producing content for external publications, including the Corporate Plan and Annual Report.
  • Partnering with a range of teams to enable the effective execution of organisational priorities.  


About you

  • Strong thought leadership and strategic thinking to support APRA in meeting its objectives.
  • Experience in leading a diverse team to deliver high quality outputs through collaboration.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills.
  • A focus on executing for outcomes, with the ability to navigate complex and ambiguous environments.
  • Experience in the financial sector, or related business sectors, in a senior leadership capacity, with a sound understanding of prudential regulation and financial stability risks.
  • Experience in dealing with a broad range of stakeholders, including industry and government
  • Professional qualifications in relevant field or equivalent experience.
