The role
The Modern Workplace Engineer designs, develops, and supports modern digital solutions with a strong focus on Microsoft 365 ecosystem (SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, Planner, MS Forms and Viva) and Power Platform.
As a valued member of the cross‑functional engineering team, this role combines hands‑on technical delivery with strong consulting and communication skills and offers exposure to Power Platform automation and emerging capabilities such as Copilot and Copilot Studio to enhance productivity, streamline business processes and improve user experience across the organisation. The role spans design, build, integration, and ongoing improvement, applying modern engineering practices across the full software development lifecycle.
This role will also contribute to the adoption of AI‑enabled capabilities, including Microsoft 365 Copilot and Microsoft Foundry, integrating these responsibly into business solutions to deliver measurable value.
The team
APRA's Technology team delivers, maintains, and enhances essential information technology services that support the organisation's productivity, strategic objectives, and business unit priorities.
Technology partners with stakeholders to design, implement and maintain IT solutions that meet the needs of the organisation and ensuring these are secure and aligned with APRA's technology architecture.
Key responsibilities
Broad understanding of Microsoft 365 administration, security, and compliance fundamentals.
Build Power Apps, Power Automate flows and integrations to digitise and optimise business processes.
Design and implement Azure‑based services, including Azure Functions, Logic Apps, App Services, Web APIs, and event‑driven integrations.
Build secure and scalable integrations between M365, Dynamics 365 and other enterprise systems.
Contribute to the design and implementation of AI‑enabled solutions, leveraging Microsoft Copilot, Copilot Studio and AI Foundry where appropriate.
Apply software engineering best practices across the development lifecycle, including code quality, testing, security, and performance.
Participate in solution design, peer reviews and continuous improvement of engineering standards and patterns.
Contribute to documentation and knowledge sharing to support sustainable, well‑supported solutions.

About you
Proven experience as a software engineer delivering solutions in a Microsoft‑centric environment.
Own and continuously improve Microsoft 365 capabilities including Teams, SharePoint Online and OneDrive.
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365 services, including SharePoint Advanced Management (SAM), Teams administration, Viva Engage, Planner and related services.
Demonstrated experience building solutions with Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse).
Solid experience with Azure services, including Azure Functions, Logic Apps, App Services, Web APIs, and identity (Entra ID).
Experience with full‑stack or frontend development, including JavaScript/TypeScript and modern frameworks (e.g. React).
Experience or curiosity for AI‑driven development, including Microsoft 365 Copilot, Azure OpenAI, Microsoft Foundry (highly regarded).
Familiarity with Agile delivery and DevSecOps / CI‑CD practices.
Strong problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, pragmatic attitude, and a collaborative mindset.
Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
